Lucas White is captain of the hockey team, and well deserving of the position. He’s hard-hitting, rough and puts up with very little. He’s kept to himself throughout his years at Providence University, but it’s time to train the next man up in line for his position. His second on the Hockey team has a twin sister that catches everyone’s eye and leaves most of the guys acting like idiots, but Lucas isn’t interested. Girls are too needy, too catty and a pain in butt. Plain and simple.
Aubrey Moore’s had her eye on the captain of the hockey team for the last few years since her brother, Jayce joined the team. He’s known for being a complete jerk, but Aubrey’s had the pleasure of seeing around the edges of his personality and wants to know him more. Now she just has to figure out how to help him breakaway from being so jaded and join her in the best adventure anyone could embark on -love.
**HEA - these novels are all within the Pro-U series, but are about different couples at the university and should stand-alone.

This is a good romance read. Aubrey and Lucas are likable, easy to root for characters , and Ali Parker skillfully peels away the layers of what makes them tick. There are some interesting secondary characters-- a brother, friends, coaches, parents. Where the book falters is in the hockey discussions. It lacks the most basic of knowledge. ( A score is a goal, not a point-- which has other meanings-- and talking about games being won by 10 or more "points" and one player regularly scoring 5 times or more a game is ludicrous. Many readers of sports/ romance are attracted to BOTH sides of the genre. I ENCOURAGE ALL WRITERS IN THIS GENRE TO HAVE THEIR EFFORTS PROOFREAD BY A PERSON WHO REALLY KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS THE SPORT THAT IS THE BACKDROP TO THE ROMANCE. Getting it right is important. Getting it wrong simply reflects LAZINESS AND UNDERMINES THE ENJOYMENT OF THE READ FOR MANY. There are numerous great romance/ hockey writers who serve as good models for getting both the hockey and the romance right. Katie Kenyhercz, for instance. I ,like some other reviewers, was not enamored with the role of the Ice Queens, or Aubrey's dubious role as Queen Bee. Bottom line, a good read-- a 3star-- that could have easily been made better with more attention to detail. J.Product details

Breakaway A New Adult Sports Romance ProU Book 1 edition by Ali Parker Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
It was going ok and I could get through the writing. The first time it got hard to handle the male main character had to deal with someone with a drug problem and “the pretty girl “ didn’t need to see that. Wtf? “Pretty girl”??? How about I’m glad she didn’t have to see it, or no one should have to see it, but “the pretty girl “?
Then the person with a drug problem that everyone keeps sweeping under the rug.
And she get referred to as “the pretty girl “ again when the guy is high in a bar and the main character hopes she doesn’t see it.
IF SHE IS IN COLLEGE, AND ABLE TO BE IN A WILLING, CONSENSUAL, SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP DO NOT CALL HER A GIRL!
At no time in the book was he referred to as a boy, don’t do it to women!
I absolutely loved this book! Lucas is hot, smart, captain of the hockey team, and my new book boyfriend! Aubrey is beautiful, strong, independent, and a ballerina/dancer. They've been fighting their attraction to each other for many years now, but with graduation for Lucas coming up in a few months...time is running out. Will one of them get the courage to say how they feel and see where it goes? This is a standalone, but it's a series which will have some characters popping in. I'm so impressed with the author's, Ali Parker, attention to detail! I have danced growing up and her description of Aubrey's pain, feet, etc... well, if you have ever experienced it as a dancer, you will know what I mean! This is an emotional and amazing book!
I was a little bothered as I started the book and discovered that the 'queens' are basically the 'groupies' of the hockey team, but....more organized. Well. That just struck me as unappealing. But it wasn't enough to put me off the book.
However, around the 20% mark, Lucas is reporting on a game that recently finished and says, "We won by 10 or so." Okay, not many hockey games result in a team scoring 10 points. Often, the total score does not equal 10, if you add both team points. So I was thinking, "Whaaaa?"
And then a bit later, Aubrey asked how many points her twin scored. Lucas reports "3" like it's no big deal. Hockey fans know that IS a big deal. So big it has a special name. / Aubrey then says she has a running bet with her brother that if he scores 5, he has to buy her dinner. Hmmmm. Five goals in one game by one guy? I love hockey and I cannot get over these glaring problems. Maybe it's picky to some. (I can over look so much when enjoying a good story.) This story just wasn't good enough to let me overlook the hockey errors.
I have never connected so completely to both main characters in a book. While I sometimes lost which character was talking when it switched POVs, it worked because they were similarly wounded and had similar hang-ups.
I started this book half an hour before I went to bed, thinking I would read a few chapters and relax. Oh no. From the initial interaction all the way through the ups and downs and struggles with betraying friendships I couldn't put it down. Even if there were parts that were definitely over the top and just plain impossible (no man-college or otherwise-is actually that truly remarkable) I found the hope and optimism of the possibility infectious.
Just can not say enough good about this book.
If I could give this book zero stars I would. It was difficult getting past the body shaming and the stereotypes. The athletes were over the top and the women that panted over them were seen as nothing but objects. The author tried to give the story line some purpose with an athlete struggling with drug issues. I just can't say there was anything redeeming about this story.
I do not recommend this book.
** spoiler alert ** Lucas is the captain of the hockey team and his teammate Jayce has a twin sister that he fell in love with 3 years ago when they met. Aubrey fell in love with Lucas too but their relationship was not to be as Jayce knew Lucas's baggage and didn't want his sister hurt. Sounds typical but the story behind Lucas was great and Aubrey has her own issues to deal with and together maybe they can deal together. Aubrey heads the Ice Girls which is basically a group of girls that sleep with all the hockey players except she doesn't sleep around
this would have gotten 5 stars if not for the lack of knowledge regarding the sport of hockey. Each player has a position they play its not determined on game day what you will play. there are 3 forward positions.. You don't get told you are playing forward tonight in the manner it is in the story. You either play rightwing, center or left wing. There is no group of girls preselected to be the group that is allowed to sleep with the team and no Division 1 hockey team doesn't have the funds to send their team to the Frozen Four.
